Classroom Workshops and Residencies

Create, discover, reflect and connect

Designed to engage students as artists and actively explore the art forms and themes of the shows on stage, FREE pre- and post-show workshops are available for classes attending New Victory performances. These workshops enhance students’ experience of the show, bridging the gap between audience and arts engagement. All workshops are team-taught by members of our highly-trained and experienced New Victory Teaching Artist ensemble.

Classroom Workshop Details

All Classroom Workshops…

  • Are team-taught by highly-trained and experienced New Victory Teaching Artists and are 45 – 60 minutes, based on your school’s scheduling needs.
  • Have a maximum limit of 35 students. Schools should not combine classes when booking workshops. Please book multiple workshops if you have more than one class participating.
  • Take place at your school or site. Workshops are ideally held in a classroom, gymnasium or auditorium that will allow the students to move safely in the space and accommodate full participation.
  • Require classroom teachers to be in the room when Teaching Artists are present. Teachers are highly encouraged to participate.
  • Follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC and New York State regarding workplace protocols for COVID, and on-site workshops depend on guidance from NYCPS and other school districts. We ask that teachers communicate to us any COVID or other illness outbreaks in classrooms where workshops have taken place or are scheduled to take place to ensure the health and safety of our Teaching Artists.

Education Residencies

Looking for more? A limited number of FREE 5-, 10- or 15-session residencies are available to schools interested in an extended workshop series. Classroom teachers actively collaborate with Teaching Artists and New Victory Education staff to plan and customize the residency to classroom interests and goals.

Residencies can be designed to connect to the theater-going experience, build skills in a specific art form (such as theater, puppetry, circus, dance, music, musical theater, storytelling, documentary theater, artivism and more), or make connections to social-emotional or academic learning goals.

Have students in Grades 6 – 12? Learn more about a special residency offering for the 2024-25 school year: Speak Up, Act Out.
