It’s a star-studded race to showtime as seven young playwrights collaborate with professional actors and directors to stage their own original works live at the New Victory Theater—all on 24 hours’ notice! For one night only, experience the passions and perspectives of some of New York City’s brightest young creatives in a showcase of short plays conceived, written and rehearsed over a single day and night. There’s no rest for the revolutionary!
Earlier this year, New York City students in Grades 5 – 12 applied for Speak Up, Act Out: Celebrating Student Voices, a creative writing program aimed at uplifting student writers and their work. Now, with support from The 24 Hour Plays, these seven selected writers will debut original short plays on the New Victory stage:
Annabelle Borsanyi (Grade 11), The Chapin School
Jeury Cortorreal (Grade 8), Mott Hall Science and Technology Academy
Celestine Deaton (Grade 10), The Chapin School
Amanda C. Deliz (Grade 10), Brooklyn Collaborative Studies
Zion Park (Grade 6), De La Salle Academy
Emma Perez Maturen (Grade 7), Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy
Adaa Rahul (Grade 6), NYC Lab Middle School for Collaborative Studies
Please note that this special event differs from a typical New Victory visit. Doors open 30 minutes ahead of the performance, with restrooms, lockers, the Cozy Zone and the Accessibility Table available in the downstairs lobby area. There are no pre-show activities or concessions.
Aiming to inspire a new generation of writers and activists, New Victory and The 24 Hour Plays are partners for this one-night-only, Off-Broadway production of The 24 Hour Plays.
The 24 Hour Plays bring together creative communities to produce plays and musicals that are written, rehearsed and performed in 24 hours. This radically-present approach to theatermaking responds immediately to the world around all of us, builds communities and generates new artistic partnerships. New Victory, and its parent organization New 42, are proud to collaborate with them to include young people and families in their efforts and open new worlds through extraordinary performances, engagement and education programs.
