About the Show

Some travel by bus and some by bike, but to see the whole world, it’s best to hitch a ride on the tail of a giant humpback whale. Seen through the eyes of an intrepid young girl and her seafaring father, follow the amazing journey of one small snail and its big buddy as they spy penguins on icebergs, find fiery volcanoes and dive down into deep water caves. With a musician storyteller as your guide, The Snail and the Whale by London’s Tall Stories, inspired by the beloved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, shows us how even little friends can be big heroes.

Inspired by the beloved book, a musician storyteller shares a tiny snail’s big adventure.

Did You Know?

  1. Tall Stories’ adaptation of The Snail and the Whale uses the personalities of the animals in the book to shape the characters in the play. The little girl is adventurous like the snail, and her father is stalwart and brave, just like the whale.
  2. While The Snail and the Whale appeared on the New Victory stage in 2014, you may remember Tall Stories more recently from Emily Brown and the Thing in 2019 or The Gruffalo in 2015.
  3. Like every Tall Stories show, The Snail and the Whale is a story told with songs. For this digital version of the show, a video split-screen lets you watch the musician play the music (and sound effects!) on her viola while the actors are singing.

About the Company
