Posted January 25, 2024 New 42 is a cultural nonprofit whose mission is to make extraordinary performing arts a vital part of everyone’s life from the earliest years onward. At New 42, we take our role as caretakers of the historic theaters on West 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues very seriously! Taking care of the theaters means helping to maintain them as vibrant spaces for the public to enjoy and preserving their historic details. We’re investing in the New Victory Theater and the block so our home continues to be an essential destination for future generations to discover and explore theater. This fall, we restored the New Victory’s historic dome and are now ready to welcome you all back to the theater! Check out New Victory Theater’s history here! This season, while you and your family were over at Stage 42, the magnificent dome you have come to know and love was given a facelift and reinforcements. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the process: Carefully remove plaster moldings for eventual re-installation Reinforce anchorage supports from plaster to underlying steel structure Restore flat plaster ceiling and dome plaster Prepare all surfaces for new paint Paint to match historic texture and finish Photo by Alexis Buatti-Ramos We would like to thank everyone who took part in this mammoth reconstruction. We couldn’t preserve this essential part of 42nd St’s history without you. Here’s to the next 124 years at the New Victory Theater!
