New Victory is proud to present work from all over the world, connecting audiences with a diverse community of international artists. During this time of physical isolation, artists around the globe are creating and sharing their work online, and we remain dedicated to linking our patrons to this network of talented and imaginative theatermakers. Come along and join us as we visit England, Israel and Mexico! England, home of Tall Stories First, we travel to London, home of the theater company Tall Stories. You may remember Tall Stories from Emily Brown and the Thing in 2019, The Gruffalo in 2015 or The Snail and the Whale in 2014. They are sharing Tall Stories at Home, a place where kids and families can find games and listen to storybooks like The Lamb Who Came for Dinner and The Snow Dragon read aloud by co-artistic director Toby Mitchell. The website also features a Play and Create section that offers coloring sheets, puzzles and activities for loads of storytelling fun. We’re particularly fond of the door hanger cut-out activity from the Emily Brown and the Thing craft page! Israel, home of The Train Theater Next, hop on over to Jerusalem, Israel, to see our friends at The Train Theater. They visited New Victory in 2018 with A Sick Day for Morris McGee, a charming puppetry performance based on the popular picture book. Their latest offering, Band Aid, is a digital kit full of fun and easy puppet-making activities for you and your family to do at home. Start with the infinite possibilities of a cardboard roll, and discover more ways to reinvent household materials. Created in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Israel. Mexico via New York, home of Sonia De Los Santos Our last stop brings us to the house of singer and songwriter Sonia De Los Santos. Originally from Mexico and now a proud New Yorker, Sonia brought her band to New Victory in 2019 with Fiesta con Sonia De Los Santos. Her music is imbued with the sights, sounds and flavors of Latin America, and her new YouTube series, “En Casa con Sonia,” makes you feel like she is singing just for you! Sonia offers dance moves and creative kazoo breaks so you can dance, hum and sing along in both English and Spanish. As our trip comes to an end, we hope you’ll take the time to explore the creative projects these international artists have to offer. Check this space next week for more destination ideas!
