Creating Connections with the Performing Arts

Dear Friends,

These last few weeks have been, in a word, overwhelming. But not for the reasons you might think. I am amazed that in this uncertain time we are more connected than ever.

Across the country and around the world, people have gifted joy to their neighbors both virtually and from as little as six feet away, in the form of painted rainbows, rousing songs and not so random acts of kindness. Not surprisingly, the artistic community has funneled their skills, talents and artistry into inventive projects that, like the wonder they create on stage, inspires and buoys us day after day.

New Victory Arts Break, our online performing arts curriculum (which recently surpassed 150,000 views!) was created to do just that: bring you joy. But you, in turn, have delighted us with photos and videos of how your family is making art and making memories. Thank you for inviting New Victory  Arts Break into your home.

Soon, we’ll be sharing more from our international family of artists. First up, Scotland’s Catherine Wheels is streaming a live version of White, a gentle and delightful story about accepting change no matter how startling it may be. As relevant and remarkable today as it was when New Victory first presented it in 2011, White was my daughter’s first theatrical experience and just as magical for me as it was for Sadie. I can’t think of a better show for you and your family to share together.

New 42 is a nonprofit committed to serving artists, educators and New York City youth through the making and sharing of art. No matter how far apart we may be, we will continue to connect you to cultures from around the world and to each other through the performing arts.

All my best,

Russell Granet
