Where will it be easiest for my child to see?

The New Victory is a small theater with under 500 seats, so there's really not a bad place to sit. There are booster seats available for use in the Orchestra. The Mezzanine and Balcony have a step up between rows (like stadium seating) so that everyone can see more easily.

Do I have to buy a ticket for my baby if I hold her on my lap?

Yes. Due to fire code regulations, everyone attending the performance needs to have a ticket for entry so that we have an accurate head count. The house management staff has the final say on whether or not a child can sit on a patron's lap. For safety or sightline reasons, they can enforce that everyone sit in his or her own ticketed seat.

How do I know if my six-year-old is the right age for a particular show?

We strongly suggest that you read the show descriptions carefully and take into account the description, show genre, and length as well as the age guidelines provided. The New Victory develops these guidelines along with the company that created the show, also taking into account our knowledge of the New Vic audience and similar works that we have presented in the past.

We urge you not to bring kids younger than the minimum age indicated. Of course, you know your child best so we ask that you use your own discretion. We do try to provide as much information as possible to help you make that decision. For additional information on the age appropriateness of a show, call 646.223.3010.

I bought birthday tickets. can we just have our cake in the lobby after the show?

Unfortunately, no. Use of the lower lobby function room is an exclusive privilege of donors at the Benefactor Level ($5000 and above) due to the additional staff time, cleanup costs and insurance coverage we would have to incur. However, there are quite a few restaurants in the area that are family friendly and can accommodate groups. Call us for suggestions.

I would like to sit with my friends. Can we all get seats together?

If you are both renewing Members, you can send in your orders at the SAME time and cross-reference each other's order in the Comments field. We will try our best to seat you near each other for the same performance. If you are a renewing Member and your friend is not, their order will not be able to be filled until the priority renewal period is over. We can fill your order and then try to seat your friends as close to you as possible when we begin filling new Member orders. Or, we could hold off on filling your order until we can fill them both together. This is a special request and we try our best to accommodate your needs.

What's the policy for arriving late to a show?

The New Victory Theater's late seating policy is at the complete discretion of the Front of House staff. Latecomers may view the show in progress on a live feed monitor in the lobby, until a late seating cue arrives. Patrons will then be allowed into the theater at an appropriate break in the action on stage, so as to minimize the disruption to the audience and the performance.

I'm curious - how and where do you find the shows you present at The New Victory?

Our Programming Department travels extensively, viewing over 200 productions a year in order to find the 10 or 12 we will ultimately present on our stage each season. They attend national and international festivals, comb arts listings and reviews, and cultivate relationships with artists and agents. They also receive and view hundreds of unsolicited videotapes a year from companies hoping to perform here.

For more information about our submission policy, click here, Programming Philosophy.

my child is very talented. are there opportunities for local kids to perform on the new victory stage?

The New Victory does not produce its own work, it only presents works created and cast by outside companies; therefore we do not have opportunities to audition young, aspiring artists.
