Getting to Know Slingsby

Founded in 2007 and based in Adelaide, South Australia, Slingsby tours around the world, presenting emotionally challenging and engaging storytelling. You may remember the company from The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy during our 2011-12 season. Though their productions are aimed at young audiences, Slingsby challenges and inspires adult family members as well. Their repertoire experiments with many different theatrical styles and art forms, from immersive theater to puppetry to opera!

Did You Know?

  • Slingsby's motto is "Journey in wonder."
  • When their federal funding was cut in 2016, Artistic Director Andy Packer and General Manager Stacey Baldwin were touched by the outpouring of love from their artistic communities. Thanks to the international support, they've created a brand new show this year, called Emil and the Detectives!
  • To date, they've toured to 69 venues in 43 cities across 10 countries around the world.
  • The name "Slingsby" comes from a character in Edward Lear’s short story The Four Little People Who Went Round The World.
