Rennie Harris
from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Urban dance guru and Alvin Ailey Award recipient Rennie Harris (Legends of Hip-Hop, New Vic 2004, 2006; Puremovement, New Vic 1999) puts a hot new spin on the coolest moves around, delivering street dance with spirit and straight up Philly soul in Rennie Harris Awe-inspiring Works. With music as diverse as its dance styles, RHAW features a youthful company of nine sensational dancers who pop and lock, b-boy and boogaloo to create funky, upbeat depictions of city life, young love and growing up. Awesome alert: there’s an ode to The King of Pop that would do MJ proud.

“Exuberant … the dancing is spectacular.
Join the celebration.”

 –NYTheatre.com

“Thrilling ... [Rennie Harris] knows how to move bodies
in space, how to layer his phrases and, above all,
how to make dancers look good.”

–The New York Times

Getting to Know Rennie Harris

The New Victory welcomes Rennie Harris back with open arms, this time with one of his companies never before seen on our stage: RHAW. The cast brims with the newest, most up-and-coming members of his ensemble. These skillful dancers hail from not only the company’s home city of Philadelphia, but also from as far away as Germany. Many have been dancing since they could walk. Originally conceived in 2007 as a youth organization in order to accommodate the talented teens and young adults asking to join the team, RHAW is proof of Rennie’s commitment to bringing the artistry of hip-hop to contemporary audiences by making it not only accessible but inspiring, relevant and, simply put, a lot of fun.
