New Victory Professional Development
The Education Department believes in working closely with classroom teachers and arts specialists (Pre-K to 12th grade) to cultivate the skills to incorporate the performing arts into their lesson planning and teaching practice. New Victory Teaching Artists and Education staff provides multiple opportunities for teachers and educators to grow professionally through the arts in puppetry, circus, dance, theater and more. Participants are engaged through art-making, skills building, reflecting and discussing the practical strategies for art form-based teaching and learning. The ultimate focus of these professional developments is to build a bridge from an artistic experience and reflection to make specific academic connections to the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy and NYCDOE’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
Creativity Seminars:
Week-long seminars take place in the summers for teachers to delve deep into an art form and prepare for the upcoming school year with ready-to-implement techniques. Seminar courses are offered for 3 P-credits for NYC DOE Teachers.
School Collaborations:
Professional Development workshops held at school sites at any time in the school year throughout the five boroughs. Sessions are formulated to specifically meet each school’s needs and goals in the arts.
Seasonal Workshops: (Free for Education Partner Teachers)
Professional Development workshops are inspired by the productions on the New Victory stage.
